Newtown Baking is Staunton’s place to go for artisan breads and pastries.With plenty of parking right at the front door, you can run in for a wide selection of European style breads, Danish, croissant, bagels, and muffins all prepared fresh every day. We also serve Staunton Coffee Company roasted right here in town, as well as a wide selection of teas and other beverages. But you don’t have to rush. Take time to sit in our café and enjoy hot breakfast items, a wide variety of sandwiches all made on fresh bread, creative seasonal soups prepared with fresh ingredients, and a rotating gallery of local art.
At Newtown Baking, the emphasis is on fresh, with bakers always arriving by 3:00 am. We use King Arthur flour, unbleached and unbromated, specially milled to artisan standards. Our baking is a labor-intensive love, as all doughs are made with starters, and loaves are given a long fermentation in the cooler to enhance flavor. This means that making our bread takes as much as three days, but we think it’s worth it. The pastry at Newtown Baking is all made with real butter and organic evaporated cane juice. When dining in Staunton, you can find our breads at The Shack, and you can now get tasty Newtown pastries at The Bye-and-Bye Cafe.
